FANTASTIC RUN OF THE MIURA BULLS IN THE LAST "ENCIERRO" OF SANFERMINES 2000

The eighth and last running of the bulls in the fiesta of San Fermín in Pamplona, Spain, with one of the most feared and largest Spanish brands participating, was a photogenic and rapid race to the ring in today´s "encierro". Only three "mozos" with minor injuries had to be taken to different hospitals in the city for treatment.

It was a uniform run all the way with only one surprise. The huge Miura bulls, one weighing 690 kilos, ran shoulder to shoulder except for two "leaders" who created moments of panic. The most dangerous and surprising situation occurred in the Santo Domingo slope when one of them jumped on to the sidewalk and literally ran over an unlucky participant wearing a red sweater.

From this point on, and as is normal in this brand of bulls, the herd ran together through the streets with no serious attempts to charge anyone until entering the bull ring.

In the last "encierro" of Sanfermines four runners were treated for minor injuries. Rubén Albadino García, 16 years old, with possible broken ribs. Ignacio Illaraz Prieto, 34 years old, from Pamplona, suffered a head injury. Koldo T. U., 40 years old, had an injured left knee and Diego Moreno, 36 years old, was diagnosed with injuries in both knees.

PAMPLONA ENDED ITS SANFERMINES BY CANDLE LIGHT

Thousands of people gathered at midnight yesterday in the "Plaza Consistorial" (in front of the Town Hall) in the candle light ceremony that officially ended Pamplona's Fiesta of San Fermín.

Yolanda Barcina, the mayor of Pamplona, standing on the central balcony of the Town Hall, invited everyone, not only residents of Spain and repeaters from other countries but also those who have only read about or watched the running of the bulls on television, to visit and enjoy the Sanfermines of the coming 21st century on the sixth of July at noon.

Even after nine days of uninterrupted Fiesta, its participants still wanted more. Sad because the "party" was ending and happy because as they say in Pamplona, "Ya falta menos" , which means the countdown for the next year's fiesta of San Fermín has already begun. After the stroke of midnight, the red scarves that the revelers have worn for the past nine days were offered in a traditional ceremony to Saint San Fermín in his chapel which is located in San Lorenzo church.

Today the city is in the process of recovering its normal rhythm. As this is a weekend there are still many tourists in Pamplona who are staying in order to discover the other side to this famous town which it becomes completely transformed during Sanfermines.
