The Details

Observation made with remote-controlled camera (available at the webcam ) and images obtained with digital camera from the TV screen, therefore some reflections appear.

Rather small, compact, but long-tailed duck, somewhat resembling a perching duck (Tribe CAIRINI) in body structure but recalling an odd pochard (Tribe AYTHYINI), particularly at the bill. Therefore, a temptative assessment of the parentage of that bird could include Wood Duck Aix sponsa or Mandarin Duck Aix galericulata and Tufted Duck Aythya fuligula or even Ring-necked Duck Aythya collaris as potential parent species, but it is hard to tell for us. Any comments on this topic are welcomed.

It is interesting to note the slightly rounded lond tail, a rather oval head with flattened crown and pale spectacles extending back as a line. There was a faint crest at nape. Entire upperparts brown with paler flanks and underparts. Buff-white undertail coverts. Wings not opened but white-edged secondaries are showed. Longish narrow bill, deeply based, with slightly concave culmen, upcurved cutting edges and rounded nail. Bill greyish with paler nostril ring and subterminal band, faded at the culmen, and a broad black band at the tip.
