(*) Gen. Pinochet ruled as Jefe Supremo de la Nación from 26 Jun 1974 to 17 Dec 1974 and as self-styled President of the Republic from 17 Dec 1974 to 11 Mar 1981, retaining the post of Junta chairman. On 11 Mar 1981 Pinochet was sworn in as President of the Republic under the new Constitution, although the military Junta continued in office.
