Governor-general of Canada from 14 May 1984 to 29 Jan 1990.
Dame Ruth Nita Barrow (1916-1995)
Governor-general of Barbados from 6 Jun 1990 to her death on 19 Dec 1995. Her brother was the late prime minister of Barbados, Errol Walton Barrow.
Dame Catherine Tizard (1931-)
Governor-general of New Zealand from 20 Nov 1990 to 21 Mar 1996.
Dame Calliopa Pearlette Louisy (1946-)
Governor-general of Saint Lucia since 17 Sep 1997.
Adrienne Clarkson (1939-)
Governor-general of Canada from 7 Oct 1999 to 27 Sep 2005.
Dame Sian Seerpoohl Elias (1949-)
New Zealand's Chief Justice since 1999, acted as Governor-general twice, from 22 Mar to 4 Apr 2001 and from 4 to 23 Aug 2006.
Dame Silvia Cartwright (1943-)
Governor-general of New Zealand from 4 Apr 2001 to 4 Aug 2006. With her takeover, the four highest offices in New Zealand were occupied by women: the Governor General, the Chief Justice (Sian Seerpoohl Elias), the Prime Minister (Helen Clark) and the Leader of the Opposition (Mary Shipley).
