MATTHEW HUTTON'S REVIEW (PSYCHIC WORLD JULY 1999)
"As
the author tells us, in the introduction of this delightful book: "Knowing,
not just simply believing, was taught to me by Spirit very early on to
be held to as a basic tenet. Belief alone, they said presupposes that
something may not be true! So, at the risk of appearing egocentric or
'spiritually obsessive' I repeat that I know; I do not simply believe."
"This unquestionable faith is evident from page one and I suspect
is one of the reasons why the author chose his main title for this book.
However, with no disrespect to him intended, forget about the title "SPIRIT
AND ME!" This is first and foremost - as the latter part is titled
THE DO-IT-YOURSELF-MANUAL FOR BUDDING MEDIUMS.
"Ken Pretty is what Psychic Researchers term a (NBM) - Natural Born
Medium. For such people a part of childhood is having a doorway to a world
most other children see only through horror films, or hear as 'spooky'
campfire tales. Little wonder that many young gifted mediums never pursue
their instincts out of childhood.
"Part One" of this book addresses the issue with a wonderfully
written autobiographical account of the author's early experiences with
the paranormal. The early scares, the confusion, and the feeling of being
different to those around you. Here is where we discover what helped mould
a once frightened schoolboy into a much-respected teacher and medium.
Injected with humour wherever possible, Ken explains what it was like
growing up as a Natural Born Medium, and I am sure that many readers will
identify, if not take great comfort from these words.
"Part Two" begins with a look at religion though the
ages - followed by the author's religious concepts and the God image as
taught to him by Spirit. In fact, Parts Two and Three was learned by Ken,
received from Spirit during sleep over many years. Then, at the inception
of the book, his Spirit Teachers refreshed it, transmitting mentally,
as he typed on the computer keyboard.
"We move on and explore what it takes to be a truly genuine medium
and why Spiritualism has not made any real impact upon the world at large.
This is followed by the way to find the pathway to mediumship and spiritual
development.
"Part Three" is the Do-it-yourself Manual for those wanting
to develop mediumship. Almost one hundred pages long; we are introduced
to the importance of time and its relevance to Spirit and mediumship.
A catalogue of some simple effective exercises follows and these are considered
necessary for the developing medium. There are instructions on how to
form and conduct circles; everything you could wish to know about Guides
and Helpers, Trance Work, Physical mediumship and Astral Travelling. Written
about too is Exorcism, Possession and Obsession, Psychic Art, Automatic
and Inspirational Writing, Prophets, Ouija Boards, Planchettes, all forms
of Dowsing and much more.
"Other talents" come specifically under the psychic heading
because intrinsically, these are not mediumship. Notwithstanding, these,
although more for those of a psychic rather than mediumistic bent, are
of importance to the message behind the book and will be found to be of
interest. That message is the searching for and the discovery of what
may be best for the individual concerned. Things like Palmistry, Tarot
Cards, Numerology, I Ching, Reflexology, Tea-leaf reading and Crystal
Ball etc. In fact even old Aleister Crowley gets a mention!
Written in a very pleasant, chatty style it is not too intellectually
demanding. Further, useful reference notes follow each main entry and
information, making this one of the most comprehensive books, in print,
on the subject of Mediumship.
A gifted writer as well as medium, Ken Pretty has produced one of the
greatest educational books on the Spiritualist market today - a book about
mediumship from a man who does not simply 'believe' - but knows.
Very highly recommended."

"Ken
Pretty's subject is one I know little about although I have experienced
déjà vu and witnessed phenomena which, however sceptical
I consider myself, I found unaccountable and inexplicable. I therefore
give no formalistic or pedantic opinion of his recently released book,
"Spirit And Me" (Born A Medium).
"It offers no pretensions and exposes in a very frank manner, Ken's
feelings, opinions and an insight into his life in a very readable manner.
Ken Pretty declares that he was born a medium and having met and talked
with him at length, I have no reason to doubt him.
His beliefs are deep rooted
(Please note! The next part is written on what my book is about as
in the above review. Therefore, as I do not want cause any boredom or
yawning I will skip the next few paragraphs.)
"Within and throughout this fascinating (and in his own words
"gobbledegook-free') book there are adages which, were we to follow
and abide by, would undoubtedly change our lives for the better. Even
the most dogmatic and definitive of individuals must, at some time in
their lives suffer self-doubt. Life is not perfect nor are we and Ken
does not pretend to be so either.
"In "Spirit And Me" expressions such as the importance
of 'Knowing - not simply believing' and learning to know oneself and using
such knowledge is prevalent. Unfortunately, the rush and tumble of today's
society sometimes precludes time to ponder on even these basic sentiments.
However, occasionally it would not come amiss to take the time to do so.
Indeed, there is much along these lines in his book that I reckon could
easily be adapted to form a character building section in any good life
guide
(N.B. He writes here about my early fears, also mentioned in the above
review and how, with the help of 'good' Spirit I learned to overcome these.
He then writes about my time as a medium and summarises by writing the
following.)
"
In one chapter Ken comments "Spiritual philosophy teaches
that by developing our spiritual minds we come to certain true knowledge
that 'death' is not the end; we only make a transition to another dimension.'
I have no particular religious leanings but I must say that I find this
sentiment rather assuring
(He then writes of his fascination with how the "Winged Wheel"
picture came about and you can read on this by clicking here)
"
"Spirit And Me" is a very open book. Whatever the
faith or leaning of the reader, a sustaining few hours of enlightenment
are forthcoming; there is no shortage of homespun truths and philosophy
and it is written in a surprisingly easy style."
PLEASE
NOTE!
Spirit has informed me, both via direct (my own helpers, etc.) and other
mediums' messages, that if "Spirit And Me" (Born A Medium) was
released in the USA, it would take off like a rocket!
Therefore, Publishers,
agents and distributors - I need you and that means that we will both
benefit!

Recently
published, this book was dictated mostly by (see Home page) "The

a month, as I sat at my computer and listened to their words. Eventually,
we were somewhat mutually satisfied. I write somewhat because there are
always some things that have to be left out
As you would read at

"Spirit And Me" is intended to be, in its entirety, a textbook.
Notwithstanding, The Manna Group, as ever, still ensured the whole held
to simple, down to earth and easy to understand content. It was never
intended to be boringly autobiographical (as so many are) - hence Part
One only covers the things of import to the occasion during of my early
life. As such the authorship is completely mine, the reason being that
it contains the 'when, what, how and why' I became a medium. However,
at my request, it was 'watched over', checked out and approved by Tuan
(my Doorkeeper). This is not surprising either! After all, before I 'returned'
this time, because of our soul compatibility, we mutually agreed that
he would be my guide throughout this, my twenty-first incarnation. I bless
that decision daily as I have every reason to be thankful for it. As such,
what more qualified person would there be to check things out for me than
the one whom, when I want him to, can almost read my every thought?
