THE HOLY RIGHT HAND (Szent Jobb)

The first Hungarian Christian king Saint Stephen I. (1000-1038) was canonized in 1083. As part of ceremony process, the remains of king, were elevated from the crypt of the cathedral in Szekesfehervar, and the right arm was removed from the body and preserved   
 
For many centuries the Holy Right Hand of Saint Stephen I, changes of emplacement. First in county Bihar, in the Mercurius abbey (center of pilgrimage) around was build a town Szentjob, now in Rumania named Siniob.

In the 13 century (until tartar invasion) the relic is sent to Ragussa (Dubrovnik) in Croatia, in the Saint Jacob abbey. In the 18 century the queen Maria Theresa brought back the Holy Right Hand an placed in the Schonbrunn palace, then gave the relic to Hungarians and place in the Royal Palace in Buda. In 1944 when then front arrive near Budapest the Holy Right Hand is rescued Salzburg (Austria). After war on August the 20th 1945, Saint Stephen's day is returned to the royal palace.

Today, you can see the Holy Right Hand in the Saint Stephen cathedral in Budapest, and the lower arm is in Lemberg (Livov) in Ukraine, whereas the upper arm is in the Saint Stephen cathedral in Vienna. Many historian agree the lower and upper arms was detached from the right arm on the 15th century for the monks .

On 1938-39 the Holy Right Hand, traveled through Hungary and many cities cancelled their correspondence with a commemorative postmark.
