Con esta victoria, Lorenzo se sitúa al frente del Mundial con 90 puntos por 82 del australiano Casey Stoner (Honda), tercero, y 65 de otro español, Dani Pedrosa, cuarto en el gran premio de hoy. Con este segundo puesto, con el asfalto mojado, Rossi regresa al podio del campeonato un año después en el mismo circuito que el año pasado fue tercero en Le Mans.
